Scenario-Based Compliance Microlearning | Rise 360 | Instructional Design

Overview
This project is a short scenario-based compliance microlearning course designed for customer-facing teams who need to handle sensitive customer information responsibly.
The course was created for CipherNest, a fictional data privacy and compliance brand, to demonstrate how workplace privacy training can be made clearer, more practical and more engaging.
The module focuses on helping learners recognise sensitive information, choose safer handling actions and know when to report a concern using a simple four-step framework: Pause → Protect → Check → Report.
The Challenge
Data privacy training can often feel abstract, legalistic or disconnected from everyday workplace decisions.
Customer-facing teams may handle sensitive information during ordinary tasks, such as replying to emails, reviewing documents, updating accounts or sharing information internally. Small mistakes can create serious risks, including:
- Sharing customer information with the wrong person
- Saving sensitive documents in unapproved locations
- Forwarding information without checking authorisation
- Using personal email or cloud storage for work documents
- Failing to report a mistake quickly
The goal was to design a short learning experience that helped learners make better decisions in realistic situations, without overwhelming them with legal or policy detail.

Key Design Decisions
Challenge-First Learning
The course begins with a realistic workplace scenario before introducing the framework. This helps learners see the relevance of the topic immediately and encourages decision-making from the start.
Simple Behaviour Framework
The Pause → Protect → Check → Report model gives learners a practical structure they can remember and apply when handling customer information.
Scenario-Based Practice
Rather than only presenting information, the course asks learners to respond to realistic situations involving identity documents, internal sharing, remote work, accidental disclosure and customer verification.
Cognitive Load Control
The module uses short sections, clear spacing, focused interactions and simple visuals to make a compliance topic easier to process and apply.
Performance Support
The downloadable Privacy Decision Checklist acts as a job aid learners can use after the course, supporting transfer from the learning environment back to real work.
Brand-Integrated Learning Design
The course applies the CipherNest visual identity across the learning experience, including colours, icons, banners, scenario imagery and the downloadable PDF. This shows how a compliance brand can extend into practical e-learning materials.

Outcome
